Where to look
On a TIE card it opens with the letter E and a run of digits — something like E00000000 — printed on the front or the back of the card.
On the green EU certificate it appears as the IXESP or C-number reference. On the older A4 certificates it may sit near the top, labelled "Nº de soporte".
What it unlocks
Most people first go hunting for it while setting up a certificado digital, the key to dealing with the administration from the kitchen table. If that step is one too many, Gestoraz issues the digital certificate as well, with nobody having to cross to the mainland for it.
It is needed to confirm your identity on digital services such as Cl@ve, the immigration portal and many Balearic administration sites. Without it, those online steps simply will not go through.
